Systems Employee Creates Work of
Art for Shuttles on Parade
ITT Systems and ITT Space Systems Division are corporate sponsors for NASA and the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation’s “Shuttles on Parade.” More than thirty 8’ fiberglass shuttles were sponsored by companies and painted by artists.
The ITT shuttle was designed and painted by ITT Systems employee Robert Sweeney, who used a chameleon/tricolor automotive paint that changes colors as you walk around it. The design features a star field and images focused on Da Vinci’s studies of flight and the winged flyer. ”I wanted to capture the spirit of humankind’s imagination of flight,” said Sweeney.
ITT plays a major role in supporting NASA manned space and interplanetary missions. Our Space Systems Division provides instrumentation for earth and space imaging systems and Systems division provides operational and mission support services for NASA/JPL deep space interplanetary mission.
Artist Robert Sweeney is the strategic communications manager at ITT Corporation, Systems Division. His works have been exhibited at the National Air and Space Museum and published by NASA, the Air Force, Sky and Telescope, and many others. |
